Frequently asked questions

What SinoInsight is, where the data comes from, and how to use it.

What is SinoInsight, and who is it for?

An independent China research and direct-consulting platform for companies outside China. We help you read the China market and vet Chinese counterparties using public data and our own analysis — English-first, accessible without a China presence.

Where does your data come from?

Only public sources: World Bank, IMF and UN Comtrade for macro and trade; the National Bureau of Statistics for provincial and official data; public listed-company disclosure (East Money F10, CNINFO) for companies; US/EU/UN/UK government lists for sanctions screening. See the Methodology page for the full list.

Is the platform copyright-safe and legal?

Yes by design. Numerical facts (statistics, filings figures) are not copyrightable and we re-chart them under our own brand; for text we paraphrase and link out, never republishing third-party content. We do not scrape competitor databases or break CAPTCHAs.

Do you cover private, unlisted companies?

Directly, we cover publicly-disclosing entities (A-share, Hong Kong, US-listed and NEEQ — ~15,000 companies) with deep profiles. China has ~200M registered companies; comprehensive private-company data requires a licensed registry feed, and for those we link out and offer commissioned due diligence.

How current is the data?

Macro and market series refresh on a regular ingestion cycle; live quotes, indices, FX and commodities are fetched in your browser in real time (indicative). Each dataset shows its source and update note.

Can I check a company against sanctions lists?

Yes — the Screening tool checks any name or USCC against US (OFAC SDN, BIS Entity List, CMIC), EU, UN and UK lists (~38,000 entries), and flags matches automatically on company profiles.

How does consulting work, and what does it cost?

Our team runs the research and delivers a decision-ready answer in your language, under NDA — custom market research, partner background checks, or entry & compliance roadmaps. Scope and price depend on the question; submit an inquiry and we reply within 1–2 business days.

What do you do with my data?

Inquiry and newsletter details are used only to respond to you and send occasional China briefings; unsubscribe anytime. See the Privacy page.
